The Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee is
calling for submissions on the India Free Trade Agreement
Legislation Amendment Bill. This is an omnibus bill that
amends legislation to implement the Free Trade Agreement
between the Government of New Zealand and the Government of
the Republic of India, which was signed at New Delhi on 27
April 2026. The bill is necessary in order to bring the free
trade agreement into force.
The bill would amend the
following:
- the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act
2001 - the Overseas Investment Act 2005, and the
Overseas Investment Regulations 2005 - the Tariff Act
1988 and the New Zealand Tariff - the Customs and
Excise Act 2018, and the
Customs and Excise Regulations 1996
Part 4of
the bill enables separate quota administration systems for
apples, kiwifruit, and mānuka honey to be established via
regulations.

Please note that the Committee intend to hold hearings on
oral submissions on 27 and 30 July 2026. Bear this in mind
