Residents of the
Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) are being advised to prepare
for heavy rain, gusty winds, and rough seas as tropical
disturbance Invest 92W approaches the region later this
week.

The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency
Management Office, in coordination with the National Weather
Service, said the weather system is expected to pass near
the Marianas from late Thursday into Friday.

Officials
said Invest 92W is not expected to reach typhoon strength
before moving through the area.

The most likely
scenario is that it will remain a weak tropical disturbance
or develop into a tropical depression, although the
possibility of it becoming a tropical storm has not been
completely ruled out.

Forecast impacts include periods
of heavy rain, gusty winds and rough marine conditions,
particularly along east-facing reefs and
beaches.

Rainfall totals of 2-3 inches are possible
across Saipan, Tinian, and Rota, although amounts could
change depending on the system’s track and
development.

The advisory comes just two months after
Super Typhoon Sinlaku devastated parts of the CNMI,
prompting officials to urge residents to review emergency
plans and secure loose outdoor items ahead of the
approaching weather.

Authorities are encouraging the
public to monitor updates from the National Weather Service
and local emergency management officials as Invest 92W
continues to
develop.
