Tonga have claimed 5th place at the OFC U-19 Women’s
Championship 2025, defeating hosts Tahiti 2-1 at Stade
Punaruu in Pape’ete, Tahiti.
Captain Tama’a Faletau’s
leadership up front proved the difference with two
first-half goals to hand her side control against
Tahiti.

Tonga’s
constant pressure on the Tahitian defence in the opening
spell gave them the better chances, as Faletau, who was
constantly pressing the Tahitian defence, slotted a low
strike past Ohotanui Bonnett to give Tonga their
first.
Faletau doubled the advantage soon after, again
showing strength and composure in the box to finish cleanly
and reward Tonga’s early dominance.
Tonga had
threatened from the opening minutes, with Sophiana Moala and
Anna Pongi combining well to create chances and force the
Bonnett into action.
A slip in front of goal almost
gifted Pongi the opener, but the keeper recovered smartly.
Faletau then fired from distance before making her
breakthroughs in quick succession to put Tonga
ahead.
Tahiti’s response came through Anikua Nekrouf
on the right wing, linking with Hereana Brothers to trouble
Tonga on the counter. Their sharp movement down the edge
carried into the second half, creating space in
transition.
Vakii Neuffer and Brothers led the push in
attack as Tahiti pressed for a goal, moving the ball well
around the final third. A clear chance fell when Amy
Masingue combined with Brothers inside the box, but
goalkeeper Filimone denied them with a strong
save.

The pressure from Tahiti finally told, when
Catherine Teikihaa slotted home from a well placed corner,
beating the Tongan keeper to give Tahiti their first
goal.
Tonga’s backline held firm under pressure and
resisted Tahiti’s late surge, securing 5th place with a
resilient defensive display.
