LAKE GENEVA – Yesterday, the Global
Sumud Flotilla, in coordination with the No G7 coalition of
civil society organizations, launched a peaceful multi-day
action on Lake Geneva to confront the G7 member states and
Western governments over their active complicity in the
ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people.
The
non-violent citizen initiative brought together a fleet of
25 boats displaying Palestinian flags and messages
condemning the G7 nations comprising: Canada, France,
Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United
States. Positioned on the waters of Lake Geneva as world
leaders prepare to gather for the summit, the action aims to
shatter the diplomatic isolation of the meetings and force
international attention onto the continued destruction in
Gaza.
Over 100 participants are highlighting the
direct role played by Western governments in enabling and
sustaining Israeli military actions through ongoing
political, diplomatic, economic, and military
support.
Susan Abdullah, a member of the Global Sumud
Flotilla Steering Committee,
stated:
“These leaders are elected by the
people to represent us, and we refuse to allow our
governments to remain complicit in the atrocities, war
crimes, and genocide in occupied Palestine. We are here on
the water to show that civil society will no longer accept
the funding and shielding of these
crimes.”
The mobilization on Lake
Geneva forms part of a broader wave of international civil
society resistance surrounding the summit. Organizers
emphasized that the systemic double standards of the G7
extend beyond Palestine, calling urgent attention to the
bloc’s role in ongoing confl icts and escalating
humanitarian crises worldwide, including in Lebanon, Sudan,
and the Democratic Republic of the
Congo.
