The New Zealand Conservative Party is pleased to announce
that Steve Chick, the Party’s Culture Spokesman, will
contest the Waimakariri electorate at the upcoming General
Election.
Party Leader Helen Houghton welcomed Steve’s
candidacy, describing him as a principled New Zealander with
extensive life experience, strong community values, and a
clear vision for restoring confidence in New Zealand’s
future.
“Steve brings integrity, practical experience,
and an unwavering commitment to the values that have long
underpinned New Zealand’s success. He understands the
importance of strong families, responsible leadership, and
preserving the cultural foundations that have served our
nation well. I am delighted to welcome him as our candidate
for Waimakariri.”
Steve and his wife, Suzy, live on a
10-acre property in North Canterbury, where they have raised
their four sons, now aged between 22 and 28.
Since
beginning his career in aviation in 1987, Steve has worked
across a wide range of roles within the industry. Beyond
aviation, his experience includes horticultural work,
door-to-door sales, marketing leadership, pre-marriage
guidance counselling, and serving as a school board trustee,
including time as board chair.
It was during his years
in school governance that Steve became increasingly
concerned about the direction of New Zealand’s education
system and broader cultural change.
“I came to the
conclusion that our country was gradually moving away from
the values and principles that once provided stability and
opportunity for families and communities,” Steve
said.

“I believe New Zealand needs leadership that is
prepared to restore personal responsibility, strengthen
families, and rebuild the cultural confidence that has been
steadily eroded over recent decades. We also need sensible
economic policies that allow us to responsibly develop the
abundant natural resources with which our country has been
blessed.”
Steve says the Conservative Party’s
commitment to Judeo-Christian values, individual
responsibility, and practical governance makes it uniquely
positioned to provide that leadership.
Having lived in
Blenheim from 2001 until 2007 before settling in North
Canterbury, Steve has developed a strong understanding of
the communities that make up the wider region.
“It
would be an honour to represent the people of Waimakariri in
Parliament and to be a strong voice for local families,
businesses, and communities.”
The Conservative Party
says Steve’s candidacy reflects its commitment to selecting
candidates with real-world experience, proven leadership,
and a genuine desire to serve the people they
