Power outages have been reported across Georgia, including in major cities and the capital. Social media users in several towns and cities, including Batumi, Rustavi, Gori, Telavi, and Kutaisi, reported power cuts shortly after midnight on July 23-24, around 00:12. The full scale of the disruption remains unclear.
At around 1:30 am, Georgian State Electrosystem, the country’s electricity transmission operator, said in a statement that “electricity supply was cut across the country” and “the exact cause” of the shutdown is being determined. According to the operator, restoration works are underway, and electricity supply has been partially restored to the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region and a large part of Tbilisi.
“Even Tbilisi TV Tower has gone dark,” internet users reported.
