Georgia’s Annual Inflation at 5.6% in September 2026 – Civil Georgia

Georgia’s annual inflation rate remained at 5.6% in September, while consumer prices increased by 0.4% month-on-month, according to data released by the National Statistics Office (Geostat) on October 2.

The annual inflation rate was driven mainly by higher prices in transport, which increased by 18.7%, followed by miscellaneous goods and services (9.4%), housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (9.2%), healthcare (8%), restaurants and hotels (7.3%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (6.2%). Education prices decreased by 12.5%.

Within the food and non-alcoholic beverages category, the highest annual price increases were recorded for fish (18.1%), meat (9%), bread and cereals (6.9%), oils and fats (4.8%), coffee, tea and cocoa (4.6%) and vegetables (0.4%). Meanwhile, prices declined for fruit and grapes (-4.3%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (-0.7%), and mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (-0.6%).

On a monthly basis, transport prices increased 2.9%, healthcare 2.8%, clothing and footwear 1.7%, miscellaneous goods and services 1.4%, restaurants and hotels 1.2%, and recreation and culture 1.1%. Education prices fell 12.2%, while food and non-alcoholic beverage prices declined 0.2%.

The European Commission’s European Economic Forecast projects inflation to remain elevated in 2026 due to high energy prices. According to Fitch Ratings, one of the major credit rating agencies, inflation in Georgia will “remain high over the coming months and decline gradually thereafter towards the 3% target.”
