Georgia participated in Sea Breeze 2026, a major U.S.-led multinational maritime exercise that brought together NATO Allies and partner nations, the U.S. Embassy reported on July 28, saying the exercise aimed to “strengthen interoperability, enhance maritime security, and improve readiness.”
The U.S. Embassy referred specifically to the second iteration of this year’s exercise, which took place on July 13-24 in Portland, United Kingdom. Georgia was represented by 12 personnel from the Coast Guard and the Defense Forces, alongside participants from Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Greece, Japan, Latvia, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
The exercise focused on mine countermeasure operations, as participating forces trained together in “mine hunting, explosive ordnance disposal, dive and salvage operations, and the deployment of unmanned underwater and surface systems to address evolving maritime security challenges,” the U.S. Embassy said.
“Through multinational planning, command and control, and tactical training, Sea Breeze 2026 enhanced interoperability among NATO Allies and partners, strengthened maritime capabilities, and contributed to a safer, more secure Black Sea region,” it added.
The first iteration of the exercise was hosted by Romania on June 3-19.
