Animal Justice Party Aotearoa New Zealand (AJP)
co-founder and co-party leader Rob McNeil is at the Beehive
today with other AJP candidates, inviting MPs from across
Parliament to stop by, say hello and talk about policies
that protect animals, people and our environment. AJP is
encouraging every political party to use its policies and
help turn New Zealanders’ compassion for animals into
meaningful political action.
“Most Kiwis care about
animals,” McNeil said. “We don’t want to see cows
suffering on long sea journeys, mother pigs confined in
cages or greyhounds injured and killed for entertainment.
And we all want affordable veterinary care when our
companion animal needs it.”
“These are not fringe
concerns. They are personal issues that affect animals,
families and communities throughout Aotearoa.” The party
says animal protection should not belong to one political
party. Its policies are available to any MP or party willing
to advance them. “We don’t care who gets the credit; we
care about achieving better outcomes for animals,” McNeil
said. “If another party adopts one of our policies and it
prevents suffering, that is progress.”
AJP’s
approach recognises that the wellbeing of animals, people
and the planet is inseparable. Farming affects animals,
waterways, the climate and public health. Habitat
destruction harms wildlife and weakens the natural systems
on which communities depend.
But animal protection
goes much further than policies traditionally labelled as
“animal welfare”. How we build roads and communities,
protect our land and waterways, produce food and treat
animals as a society all have consequences for people.
AJP’s approach is to consider those connections in every
area of public policy and ask one simple question: what will
this decision mean for animals, people and our
environment?

Rob McNeil and the AJP team would love to
meet MPs, supporters and anyone with questions about the
party or its policies at the Beehive today between 11.30am
and 1.30pm. Rob says “Come along, say hello and join the
conversation.”
