Georgia recorded 1.3 million international visitors in the second quarter of 2026, down 5.2% year-on-year, while the number of visits by international visitors stood at 1.5 million, down 4.5% compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) on July 30. Visitors from Russia remained the largest share, accounting for 25.1% (328,900) of all visitors, or nearly one in every four visitors.
Geostat defines an “international visitor” as a traveler aged 15 and older who visited Georgia for less than a year, excluding certain categories such as those travelling for employment purposes. The number of “international non-resident travelers,” a broader caterogy covering all people moving between geographic locations for any purpose and duration, reached 1.7 million, down 4.9% year-on-year.
During the reporting period, international visitors made 1.2 million tourist-type visits, a 2.7% decrease compared to the second quarter of 2025, according to Geostat.
Of all international visitors, 81.5% were “only tourists,” meaning they stayed at least one night in Georgia, while 14.8% were “only excursionists” who did not include an overnight stay. Another 3.8% fell into both categories.
By the number of visitors, Russia accounted for the largest share at 25.1% (328,900), followed by Turkey (16.9%) and Armenia (10.8%). Russian citizens also ranked first by the number of visits, with 380,100, followed by Turkish citizens with 287,000 and Armenian citizens with 199,600.
Visitors aged 31-50 represented the largest age group, making up 43.8% of all international visitors. Women made up 42.9% of the total.
Holiday, leisure, and recreation remained the main purpose of visits, cited by 49.6% of visitors. Tbilisi and the coastal region of Adjara were the most visited destinations, recording 875,500 and 621,300 visits, respectively.
Total spending by international visitors reached GEL 3 billion in the second quarter, down 13.3% year-on-year. Average spending per visit also declined by 9.2% to GEL 1,922.1 (about USD 734).
