MIA: 119 Arrested in Nationwide Drug Crackdown, Including 49 Dealers – Civil Georgia

Georgia’s Interior Ministry said on June 10 that it had arrested 119 individuals on drug-related charges, including 49 suspected drug dealers, during a nationwide operation conducted over the previous 48 hours. The detainees include both Georgian and foreign nationals and face up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.

Announcing the operation, Tbilisi Police Chief Vazha Siradze said law enforcement officers seized “particularly large quantities” of drugs and psychotropic substances during searches of suspects, their vehicles, and residences, as well as from locations identified through the investigation. The substances include “heroin, cocaine, alpha-PVP, methadone, mephedrone, buprenorphine, and others.”

Siradze said police also seized materials “used for packaging narcotic substances, money allegedly obtained from the sale of narcotics, a large number of firearms and ammunition.” He added that police officers had carried out multiple “controlled purchases” of drugs and made covert audio and video recordings of the transactions.

“Evidence obtained through investigative actions establishes that the detained drug dealers were systematically selling narcotic substances to citizens in exchange for money,” Siradze noted, adding that the ministry’s stated “uncompromising” fight against drug-related and organized crime will continue across the country.

The latest operation follows a series of large-scale anti-drug crackdowns. In January, police arrested 88 drug dealers and others involved in drug-related crimes, while in February, police arrested 97 people in operations targeting organized crime, including 81 accused of drug dealing and related offenses. At the end of 2025, the ministry said more than 5,000 people had been arrested for drug-related offenses over seven months, including 2,000 involved in drug dealing.
