Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni
Rabuka says he is waiting to hear from one of his most
senior cabinet ministers concerning an explicit video that
ended up on his Facebook before taking any action.
On
Friday, a one-minute clip, described by local media as a
“sex clip”, appeared on the country’s chief legal advisor
Siromi Turaga’s Facebook profile before it was taken
down.
It is the second time a private recording of a
Fiji government minister has found its way online under
Rabuka’s administration.
An intimate video involving a
female cabinet minister, Lynda Tabuya, was leaked
online and went viral in 2024. She was suspended by
Rabuka and removed as a cabinet minister in early 2025,
before being reinstated in August last year.
Local
reporters asked Rabuka whether he would apply the same
approach and dismiss Turaga, who has not made any public
statements or responded to media requests on the
issue.
Rabuka said he needed to hear first from
Turaga, his justice minister, who is currently
overseas.
The prime minister also told reporters he
had not seen the clip circulating online or any related
images, but had received an email about the
issue.
Earlier on Monday, Rabuka said that anyone with
evidence should lodge a complaint.
RNZ Pacific has
contacted Turaga via phone and email for comment. However,
efforts to reach him have so far been
unsuccessful.
