Georgian officials expressed hope to “significantly boost” the local economy and tourism while giving young Georgian pilots a new training field as they inaugurated Ambassadori Aviation Village, a state-backed private multifunctional aviation complex in Kachreti, Georgia’s Eastern Kakheti region.
“Today, a new chapter is being written in the history of Georgian aviation. The investment project in the value of USD 15 million — the Ambassadori Aviation Village — will make a significant contribution to strengthening the local economy and fully unlocking the country’s tourism potential,” Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Dream Prime Minister, said at the ceremony on September 5.
Kobakhidze also said the project could create opportunities for young Georgians to pursue aviation careers, as “high-calibre pilots will be trained here and will obtain internationally recognised licences.” He welcomed “the nearly 30 crews of experienced European pilots who have arrived in Georgia,” saying their presence demonstrates “the increasingly prominent place Georgia is securing on the international aviation map.”
The 16-hectare complex was launched by Ambassadori Group, a Georgian business conglomerate with hotels in Tbilisi and Kachreti, as well as an under-construction artificial island project in Batumi, with a USD 15 million investment, including a GEL 10 million loan approved with the support of the Georgian Economic Development Corporation, a government entity established in April to “actively work to attract new foreign investment to Georgia.”
The complex combines an airfield with a 1,185-metre-long and 18-metre-wide main runway, a hangar capable of accommodating 12 aircraft, a flight school, an aviation club, and residential facilities, the Ministry of Economy said.
The ceremony was attended by business representatives but also top officials of the Georgian Dream government, including Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, and Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili. Among those addressing the event were also Gocha Kamkia, General Director of Ambassadori Island Batumi; Peter Sodermans, Honorary Consul of Georgia in Luxembourg and a pilot; and Nichita Raetchi, General Manager of the Aviation Village, according to the Economy Ministry.
The event was also attended by participants in an ongoing aviation expedition from Luxembourg, involving a group of 26 private aircraft and organized by the Honorary Consul of Luxembourg with the support of Georgia’s Foreign Ministry.
Economy Minister Mariam Kvrivishvili said that the project aims to popularize small aviation in Georgia, develop aviation tourism, and establish Kakheti as a new destination on the country’s aviation map.
Kvrivishvili also used the opening to highlight the government’s wider plans for expanding Georgia’s aviation infrastructure, pointing to rising passenger traffic, and noting that in 2025 Georgia’s airports served 8.5 million passengers, while in the first 7 months of 2026 passenger traffic had already exceeded 4.6 million.
She highlighted the ongoing USD 150 million expansion of Tbilisi International Airport, which is expected to increase its annual capacity to up to 10 million passengers.
She also pointed to the ongoing construction at Kutaisi International Airport, where a new 3.5-kilometre runway is being built, while the government is preparing plans for a new Vaziani International Airport.
The minister further pointed to the government’s plans for domestic aviation, including “two very important tenders” for the construction of a new domestic airport in Kakheti and a new terminal in Mestia.
“What is happening today here in Kachreti is a logical continuation of this process, where the private sector responds to the opportunities created by the state with its own initiative and investment,” she said.
Kvrivishvili said the project could also help “attract more foreign private pilots and aviation enthusiasts to Georgia, who travel, stay in various regions, and make use of local services.”
The ministry reported that “A Memorandum of Cooperation” was signed between the Georgian Aviation University and Ambassadori Aviation Village during the opening ceremony. An air show was held as part of the opening ceremony.
