Four More October 4 Defendants to Leave Jail Early After Reaching Plea Agreements – Civil Georgia

Four people convicted in connection with the October 4, 2025, election-day events, including figures accused of organizing the unrest, are set to be released from prison on November 5 after the Court of Appeals approved plea agreements with prosecutors.

Judge Mzia Lomtadze approved the agreements on October 28 for Murtaz Zodelava, Lasha Beridze, Irakli Chkhvirkia and Guri Zhvania. Under the agreements, all four pleaded guilty, a prerequisite for the plea deals, and received revised sentences of one year and one month in prison, followed by two-year suspended sentences.

The defendants had previously been sentenced to between five and seven years in prison on charges related to the October 4 unrest.

Zodelava had been sentenced to seven years on charges covering public incitement to violently overthrow the constitutional order, attempted seizure of strategic facilities as a group, and organization and leadership of group violence. Beridze also received a seven-year sentence after being found guilty of the attempted seizure of strategically important facilities as a group, and of organizing and leading group violence.

Zhvania, a protester, had been sentenced to five years in prison on charges of participation in group violence, while Chkhvirkia also received a five-year sentence after he was found guilty of attempted seizure of strategic facilities as a group and participation in group violence.

The agreements are the latest in a series of plea deals involving defendants prosecuted over the October 4 election-day unrest. A total of 64 people, including opposition politicians, have been charged in connection with the events. More than half of them have secured early release through a series of plea agreements as well as a presidential pardon.
