Tbilisi City Court has sentenced Russian citizen Aleksandr Popov to 15 days in administrative detention and ordered his deportation from Georgia after he urinated from a balcony, reportedly under the influence of alcohol. He was also barred from reentering Georgia for three years.
The Interior Ministry told Civil.ge that Popov was detained under Articles 166 and 171 of Georgia’s Code of Administrative Offenses, which cover petty hooliganism (166) and drinking alcohol in public places, as well as conduct that offends human dignity and public morality (171).
The incident gained attention after Georgian citizen Teona Golodze posted a video, saying that she was sitting at the cafe when the man, apparently drunk, began urinating from a balcony above.
According to Golodze, she stood up and began recording the incident, after which the man went back inside the apartment. She then called the police. In the video shared by Golodze, the man can also be heard shouting, “Slava Rossii,” a Russian phrase meaning “Glory to Russia.”
The footage also shows Popov later admitting to the act, apologizing and saying he did it because “the bathroom was occupied.” Popov reportedly also admitted to the act during a court hearing and expressed regret.
