Driver Detained After Minibus Crash Kills Four Belarusian Citizens in Guria – Civil Georgia

A driver of a minibus has been detained following a fatal crash that killed four Belarusian citizens and injured 17 people on a trip in Georgia’s western Guria region on August 12, the Interior Ministry confirmed to Civil.ge

According to media reports, the minibus was traveling from Gomismta, the region’s popular mountain resort and tourist attraction, toward Ozurgeti, Guria’s administrative center, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to plunge off the road.

The injured were hospitalized, with Georgian Dream Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze visiting them in the hospital.

The driver, a Georgian citizen who managed to jump from the vehicle during the crash, was also taken to a hospital in Kobuleti, but remains there under the supervision of the escort service, Interpressnews reported. The investigation is underway under Article 276-6 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which covers violations of traffic safety or vehicle operation rules resulting in death.
