Today’s desperate cling to power by Prime Minister is
the end of the line for the Coalition Government, says
Alliance Party leader Victor Billot.
He says a rattled
looking Christopher Luxon has now had to face two
humiliations at the hands of his own caucus, following a
series of public bumbles.
“Christopher Luxon does
not understand life outside the corporate bubble, he does
not understand New Zealand, and he does not even like New
Zealanders,” says Mr Billot.
“The Luxon Government
has failed New Zealand, overseeing soaring unemployment, a
cost of living crisis, and a divisive approach that has
harmed the nation.”
“We are now left with a
damaged, rudderless Government dominated by extreme elements
on the hard right – a Government that is at war with its
own country.”
Mr Billot says the scrambling from
National a couple of months out from an election was driven
by panicked National MPs who could see their jobs
disappearing in November.
“They are people who
promote the values of looking after number one, and their
self-interested philosophy is on display today.”
Mr
Billot says a new Government that understands the needs and
values of the majority of working New Zealanders is
required.
“The Alliance has strong democratic
socialist policies that work for the majority, for full
employment, housing, infrastructure and relief from the cost
of living
crisis.”
