The People’s Coalition on Food Sovereignty strongly
condemns the ongoing strikes by the United States and Israel
on Iran under Operation Epic Fury (US) and Operation Roaring
Lion (Israel), launched on February 28, 2026. War,
occupation, and armed conflict are fundamental threats to
people’s food sovereignty; today, they remain among the
leading drivers of famine worldwide. Such escalations risk
devastating local agricultural systems and weaponizing
hunger—a tactic the world has witnessed with harrowing
clarity in Gaza Strip.
As seen in Venezuela, sanctions
and military aggression have severe humanitarian
consequences. In Iran, US sanctions and last year’s
military strikes have contributed to soaring inflation, with
food prices nearly doubling over the past year. Further
escalation threatens to push oil prices even higher, driving
inflation beyond national borders and deepening food
insecurity—particularly among the world’s most
vulnerable communities.
The context of these attacks
cannot be ignored: they are not isolated acts but part of a
larger campaign of geopolitical domination and military
escalation in the West Asia–North Africa (WANA) region. By
targeting Iran, the US and Israel—emboldened by their
ongoing actions in Gaza—seek to weaken anti-imperialist
resistance and consolidate influence across Iran and the
wider WANA region. We refuse to remain silent while
geopolitical ambitions are advanced at the expense of
people’s lives, livelihoods, and fundamental right to
food. Stand with
Iran!
