29th January, 2026
The Sahel
Solidarity Campaign Network (SaS-CaN) expresses its deepest
shock and condemnation of the terrorist act that took place
early this morning, Thursday 29th January, 2026 near the
Niamey International Airport, in The Niger Republic. This
violent extremism is vile and a glaring reminder of the
grave threat that terrorism poses to the people of the Sahel
region and the Africa continent. We expect that the
perpetrators of this horrendous attack will be brought to
justice.
SaS-CaN working Committee extends its deepest
sympathies to the families of the victims, and to the
government and people of Niger Republic over this heinous
and cowardly attack. It wishes a speedy recovery to the
injured, and stands with the AES (Alliance of Sahel States)
wholeheartedly in this moment of profound
anguish.
This cowardly and calculated act of terror,
mastermind by foreign powers who recently vowed to cease
uranium ore from Niger Republic, is a direct assault on the
values of civilisation. The deliberate targeting of the
Capital of Niger Republic, i.e. Niamey was a well calculated
ploy to create panic among the civilian population. SaS-CaN
reaffirms its strongest condemnation of these criminal acts
and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and
terrorism aimed at undermining peace, security and
stability.
SaS-CaN is of the opinion and belief that
the time is now to translate the international concern that
has been shown about the violent activities of Al-Qaeda
terrorist group and its allies into a concerted plan of
action for ensuring peace, security and stability across the
Sahel region. This latest terrorist attack in the Nigerien
capital has provoked condemnation by the international
community.

A matter of grave concern to SaS-CaN at
this time is the threat of regime change in the Sahel regime
that is being spearheaded by the Trump administration in
Washington, France and Israel. To SaS-CaN, the policy of
regime change abroad is an act of cowardice and needs to be
condemned in no uncertain terms.
SaS-CaN is the voice
of families who have lost their loved ones in the on-going
terrorist war against the Sahel people. There have been
widespread human rights abuse; orchestrated attacks by armed
terrorist groups on defenceless communities; and systematic
burning, looting, intimidation and violence, including
sexual assault against women in the Sahel region. These
dastardly targeted attacks must stop immediately.
Let
there be no mistake, it would be a tragic setback for peace,
security and stability in Africa if the US, France and
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insist on
implementing regime change in the Sahel region. It would
also strike a blow at United Nations Charter and
International Law, which the United States and France for
instance, are obliged to uphold in high
esteem.
Africa, the Sahel in particular must not be
made a playfield for terrorists to display their trademark
by threatening international security. We ask the United
Nations Secretary-General in New York to use his good
offices to exert pressure to prevail on Washington, Paris
and Tel Aviv to abandon their policy of regime change for
peace, security and stability in the Sahel region.
The
Sahel region stands at a crossroad today. The future of
peace, security and stability is at stake. To be sure, this
is our advocacy and as such the terrorist attacks against
communities across the Sahel region strike at the very heart
of international civilised norms, conduct and of behaviours,
as well as United Nations Charter. These dastardly targeted
attacks are a blot on humanity.
The entire Sahel
region stands united against terrorism and against all acts
that constitute terrorism. We extend our unflinching
solidarity to the AES in its resolve to smash terrorism and
all terrorists out of the Sahel region. It is imperative
that the safety of citizens of the AES is ensured and peace
is restored in the region.
Concluding, SaS-CaN
entreats the global community to support and rally behind
the AES at this painful and traumatic time in the history of
the Sahel region. The time is now to show understanding and
support the AES in healing the wounds inflicted on its
citizens and rebuild the Sahel region. SaS-CaN asks for
global solidarity as the AES embarks on this painful
journey.
God bless the Sahel region!
God bless
the
AES!!
