New Zealand will host one of
China’s most senior leaders for an important visit,
highlighting the strong ties between our counties.
The
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Gerry
Brownlee, will host the Chairman of China’s National
People’s Congress (NPC), Zhao Leji, from 20-22 November.
Chairman Zhao is the head of China’s national legislature
and the third-ranking member of China’s political
system.
During his visit, Chairman Zhao will meet with
the Speaker, receive an official welcome to New Zealand’s
Parliament, and have a courtesy call with Prime Minister
Christopher Luxon. Other engagements will take place across
several cities, celebrating the strong cultural connections
and agricultural partnerships between our two
countries.
This is the first visit by a Chairman of
China’s National People’s Congress to New Zealand since
2005. Parliamentary exchanges between China and New Zealand
have taken place since
1977.
